Workshop Goals

  1. Follow up on development projects that Diaspora-Guatemala partners have been working on.
  2. Provide training in areas of project planning, management, monitoring and budgeting.
  3. Provide a platform to network and meet professional contacts in Guatemala and in the Diaspora.  

This workshop is conducted with the support of Western Union and in partnership with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Chicago Global Donors Network, ADAM, the El Sol Resource Center and Casa No’j Casa de Cultura.

Dale will provide an overview of the 97 Chicago diaspora donor groups with whom he works comprised of migrants from around the world and offer lessons of sustainable development projects they have sponsored.

The Cultural Significance of Guatemala-Diaspora Partnerships

Guatemala-Diaspora Partnerships are playing an important role not only in promoting the integration of Mayan migrants in the Untied States and the economic development of Mayan communities in Guatemala but also the continuity of the Mayan peoples and their children’s identities, cultures and languages.

What are ways that other Diaspora groups raise funds to support projects?  Dale will share examples from Diaspora groups from around the world and Rebecca will share from the Israel-Jewish Diaspora model.
